Window frame clean-up

Who among you Airstream owners has a tried and true method to clean up mildly corroded window sill and window hardware. I was thinking to remove and soak the the Corning glass latches in parts cleaner but I suspect that would be too harsh on aluminum. Clean the frame sill with ????? 000 steel wool and mineral spirits? Thank you for your help.

In the past I have removed the latches for the lower part of the window and cleaned up the frames with Simple Green or citrus cleaner, synthetic steel wool and plastic or brass "tooth" brushes for the corners.
Don't use real steel wool. The steel fibers will imbed in the softer aluminum and rust in a short period of time.
I used to be able to easily find synthetic steel wool from 3M but can't seem to find the finer grades now. Get the finest you can find and go easy with the elbow grease.
The latches are really simple and get just get a dab of grease when put back on.

Thank you Tom. I would have used steel wool as an obvious method. Simple Green I got. It works on just about anything.
