Wbcci numbers

I need help to safely remove the WBCC numbers from our 1962 safari trailer without damage to the aluminum. They have been on the trailer for over twenty five years.

I pulled mine off when they were in the direct sun and were hot. Just lifted a corner and they pulled right off. You can also try a heat gun if it does not get hot enough in Maryland,

I laid a damp washcloth on mine, heated with a standard issue laundry iron (set on medium high) movining the iron constantly on one letter at a time. About 15 seconds later, whole thing peeled off. "Goof Off" cleaned up the residue.

Twenty five years ago the adhesive they used was probably different. I used the heat gun it and it removed the red part of the numbers but the back part is stuck fast. I also used the iron. My next move is a plastic scraper.

Don't use plastic scraper to get off. One wrong move and the clear coat come off too!!! But if you aren't going to keep the clear coat, who cares?

I used voodoo magic to get the crusty glue off: I used adhesive remover and some trailer polish plus time, the Texas sun, and a rain shower to get mine off! Really! It was an accident that it worked (well, I may have stopped in disgust due to lack of progress!). It was as if time and compounds destroyed the adhesive matrix and the combination of hot sun with rain made the dried glue just wipe off. One wipe and it was gone. I really think the heat and water will push your efforts farther than the plastic scraper.

This 1962 safari never had a clear coat on it. The numbers are stuck to the aluminum I also rubbed them with mineral spirit I am making a little progress.

Greetings. I had to remove my WBCCI numbers last week. They were six years old and baked on by the sun, split and faded - nasty.

First, I used N2960's advice and used an iron and a wet cloth. I had to leave it on there about 30 seconds steaming away, then I used a plastic putty knife to quickly roll of the red plastic. As it cooled it only hardened back up and I would have to start again. After getting the plastic out of the way, I started working on the caked on glue. I first used goo gone. I used almost a bottle of it with a ton of elbow grease - not really powerful enough. So, I used gunk's Bug and Tar Remover and that got it much better.

I have been searching to find a thread where someone has taken the red numbers off a newer trailer that has the Alcoa clear coat finish on it.
Just wanted to ask if there was a shadow number left on the aluminum once the numbers were removed?
