Waxing 2007 Bambi?
Hello,
My local Airstream dealer, (who I don't quite trust) informed me I should have my trailer waxed by them to keep it over the winter.
Has anyone had experience with waxing or have a comment on waxing or not waxing?
They also recommended hand washing. I washed the trailer at at a car wash myself but wonder if it's clean enough to wax without a hand wash by the dealer. (Hand wash $125.00)
Thanks
I wax our Bambi at least two times a year.
There is an acrylic clear coat on the aluminum and the top is white. Both benefit from good maintenance just like a car.
I'd be surprised if a car wash got the trailer clean enough to wax but...
Your mileage may vary!

I wash my trailers at home by hand. I've found a really soft brush that I use on the roof and a microfiber mitt on the sides. I can wash my 25' in a little over 1.5 hours and about 2 hours for my 34'.
I use an automotive paste wax once a year. I've used Meguiars and Turttle wax the last few years with good results. I have also used liquid Walbernize that Airstream reccommends, but I prefer the paste. Waxing takes a half day at least.

The dealer is just trying to get your cash. Wash with any liquid car/boat soap and wax with liquid Turtle Wax or any brand that you prefer.

Do you know what a learning experience is? A learning experience is one of those things that says "You know that thing that you just did? Don't do that."
Dabbing Corrosion X on seams and rivets plus a coat of any of the Polymer based polishes once a year will keep a multitude of problems away. A good polish or wax on the front will enable you to wash off bugs with ease also. (Liquid Glass or Rejex, both good choices). Hand wash, let dry, apply corrosion X, wipe clean, polish.
