Washing exterior 2008

I met a fellow with a new AS who uses Polmolive dish cleaning liquid to clean the exterior skin. He said its made for aluminum pans. Has anybody tried this?
If not what is a better wash for the exterior? I super walberize 2@yr.

You are not washing aluminum. You are washing clear coat paint, unless you have stripped it off.

Try Joy. Palmolive has a chemical in it that is a little harsh. Joy has been recommended for years.

Of course Pep Boys has those mild cleaners too.

joy

i use joy to wash off old wax from my car. I was told by the zaino polish people that to prep a new car before applying polish to use joy, it is also known in marine circles that if you overfill gas at the water side pump to squirt joy into the water and it will combine with the gas. So I would think it would strip off the wax on the AS.

I haven't lost my wax when I use Joy. I wax with Walbernize. Be sure we are talking about dishwater soap and not dishwasher soap.

Anyway, I have used it for years.

50/50 Simple Green, Burb & Stream, bio friendly, works well for us.

Whatever you use....RINSE WELL. Any chemical will leach under the clearcoat wherever possible.

We use a very weak solution of water and car-wash concentrate.
We make sure we rinse the AS of completely BEFORE we wash to remove as much loose junk as possible before we wash - with as much pressure as the hose gives us,
I use one of those ultra-soft brush heads on an adjustable aluminum pole for washing.
I make sure to brush in the direction of the 'grain' that is in the aluminum to minimize any visible scratches.
We rinse completely and then apply Walbernize - once in the spring and once in the fall.
For washings in between these two applications, I use a weak solution of car-wash concentrate with was.
So far, so good.
Windex on the windows, silicone spray on all the hinges, white lithium grease on the stabilizing jacks and step mechanism (and inside the ball receiver on the tongue) and every once in a while some plumbers silicone on the rubber window seals. Graphite in the locks and she's ready to go!
We use this stuff Protect All Shine Plus Household & Solid Surface Cleaner, Polish, Wax & Treatment on the cabinetry, counter tops and the non-aluminum walls inside...it's great stuff - we use it on the laminate counter tops at home too.

What I've been told is you don't want to wash it with any product that contains petroleum distillates. Many dish soaps contain that....check the labels. I use Armor-All car wash liquid. Does not have any petroleum contents.
