For years here on The Forums I've heard folks recommend Dawn and have used it. I understand that Dawn is the preferred soap to use when oil spills result in birds being covered in floating oil. It is supposed to be a very gentle means of cleaning the wildlife. Been recommended for years for washing our Airstreams. Read it didn't have a negative effect on the clearcoat.

Wash / not wash? Or use plain water or buff to shine that'll clean it?

I have used Joy dishwashing liquid on all my rolling stock for many years with no ill effects. It cuts the dirt, rinses clean and does not dull the finish. I know that Dawn is excellent at cutting grease but I recently heard that Dawn will remove the wax. I don't know how true that is. I am perfectly satisfied with using Joy.

Many prefer auto or specialty RV washing liquids to dishwashing liquids. Gentler on the wax finish.
