That pesky decal glue!

I need everybodys feedback on the glue that hides in waiting under most RV Decals. Particularly the ones on fiberglass exterior walls. Laquer thinner seems to bond the exposed decal glue into the fiberglass wall itself- making it even harder to take up completly.
I know some you are rocket scientists...help!

"Shout"worked like magic on all the glue left under the labels on the counter top, fiberglass shower walls and Corian counter top.

So far I have used Lacquer thinner and unleaded gas and 91 per cent rubbing alcohol. I will try the shout product tomorrow. Any more feed back out there?

I use Goof Off Professional Strength for the stubborn sticky residue. I've tried Lacquer Thinner, Lighter Fluid (Naptha), Mineral Spirits, Goo Gone, WD-40, etc, etc. Goof Off is by far the best. Nasty stuff but works like a champ!

Thanks all. If Shout works - I will do a back flip. (of course you will not see me do that. But I will be ecstatic to say the least) -Thanks again. I will report back tomorrow.

Last question. There are three types of the Shout product - was there a certain one you used to do it?

Sorry, didn't catch this one last night, and I am in the west.
Canadian "shout" I used just says"Triple Action". Can't see much else distinguishing on the label. Borrowed it from the laundry room.

Try WD40 - this actually has many uses, but one of the neatest is removing the glue gunk of labels.

I used the WD40 on my last trailer to get off all of the decal glue after the decals dried up and fell off or shrivelled to nothing. I had to soak it with paper towels on the vertical surfaces so that it would "soak" in for a while. Then it was a lot of elbow grease since the glue was no longer sticky but dried. It did all eventually come off, but not without a lot of effort.

Glue removal with heat gun

Warm the glue or decal with a heat gun like the ones used to remove paint. Pull gently on the decal and it will peel off with most of the glue. Wax the remaining glue with a cleaning paste wax to get it off. I removed decals from the airstream exterior, and every year remove stripes from fiberglass boats this way. It works best if the decal has not fallen apart because you can pull on it. It is more difficult if the decal has cracks.

Removal of glue

We use finger nail polish remover and it works well. What do people use to remove bugs and road dirt while in the road? I like to do it am concerned if I use something like Simple Green or the like it will damage the clear coat of the Mercedez.

If you go to an automotive paint supplier, you can get the 3M adhesive remover. Does a fantastic job. Make the glue just ball up when you rub it. I removed the stickers off a motorhome and the glue came off as easy as pulling off the stickers.

Goof Off and GooGone both work like champs. I removed dried tree sap with Goof Off. remember to wash it off when you're done.
