Update

Rain has been holding off, somewhat. We are now 80% done, 1 pass. Now all the sins of the aged metal and wear and tear are noticeable.
All in all it looks pretty good!

That's purdy

Looks great. You're going to be the envy of the campground.

I hope your night shy around strangers!

Be careful around your rock gaurd. Do not get any stripper on it or you'll hose it up bad.

Lessons learned

  1. Spray a 2' x 2' area, use a soft plastic scraper to remove the clear.
  2. Spray more stripper on and use Scotch Brite to clean the aluminum
  3. Rinse with water on a soft rag to neutralize the stripper.
  4. Pre polish with 3M and 6" buffer with a foam wheel.
  5. Polish above first, the electric cord tends to hit the sides and make fine scratches.
  6. Don't Cyclo more than a 2' x 2' area, the compound dries and becomes hard to get off.
  7. Once you have the area polished, immediately put a soft cloth and go over the area.
This does 2 things, Cleans off excess polish from the metal and the buffing heads.

Done!

Made all the way around. One last test today. I was curious as to how the finish would look using Nuvite Grade F. So I ordered some from Air Stream Dreams yesterday and to my amazement it came in today. I have noticed some areas that have a haze to it that the Grade C does not seen to get under. So once the new compound arrived I decided to give it an extra pass. Now I wish I did a pass with Grade F then C. It worked really well as the pass for the "C" went faster. All in all, I have spent 28 hours doing everything but the roof and the Nook and crannies.

Balrgn,

Nice job! thanks for the tips and the pics. Very Inspiring. There's hope for the rest of us.

Did you just use the POR 15 stripper all over, or just where there was clearcoat remaining?

Thanks.

Ken.

Thanks! It went much better than I feared. Took a while to convince myself to tackle this.

I used the Por Stripper where ever there was clear coating left. The PO had (god bless him!) done the upper sections of the unit. It literally works almost as fast as you spray it on. I was amazed it only took 1 1/2 gallons. When you polish you may find a spot here and there that the clear stayed, I had a few about the size of a quarter. They are hard to see until you hit it with compound. I just sprayed some on white Scotch Brite and rubbed it off, then went over that spot again.

Psycho BIRD Atack!

Went out this Am to check for areas that needed touch up. Found that some bird or birds had their way with the finish! Talk about MACABRE!!!

There is a 3’ x 5’ area, most the whole rear with the finish just destroyed.

On well, I wanted to polish today anyway
