Stripping A Painted 31 Intl. Different types of AL?

So as I strip I am finding that some of the aluminum hiding under the tacky silver paint is not brushed... I thought that all sheeting was brushed if original and have been thinking that some sections have been replaced. Then I happen to glance at the owners manual for 1984 and see that it looks like brushed in the curves, and regular aluminum sheet in the straight areas. What is the deal? It is pretty clear in the color pic on the cover of my o/m that they are different. Is this the case?

All the aluminum on the exterior of your Airstream has what is called a "mill finish". It appears to have a brushed look.

A good paint job, using a colored paint requires that the metal be "sanded", not scuffed or have any acid applied.

Surely, if that was done to your Airstream, the stripping would be difficult at best.

All you can probably do, is strip the entire coach, and then examine it to see what all may or may not have been done to it.

Post the information, and I am sure others will offer a game plan as to what your next steps could be.
