Stripping?

Well I'm exhausted from trying to find a stripper in southern ontario.
I have tried to purchase removall220 all dealers want you to purchase
4 gallons at $75 a gallon plus tax and shipping roughly 369.00 !
I have an Avion 24foot which I need to strip just certain spots,
a gallon would likely be more than suffiicient.
So I have now tried circa 8150 gel, with no luck.
Also I have tried Tal-strip II aircraft stripper with no luck.
If anyone knows how or where to get a product in Hamilton Ontario
area, I will be forever in your debt.
I also tried to find the Kleen strip product as certain others in this forum
reported good luck with this product.
The ridiculous thing about removall is Napier is Canadian,BC. and yet
to try to purchase one gallon in canada seems impossible!
Anyway, thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Mike

I did not 100% understanding your posting. Are you trying to strip the remaining clearcoat from your vintage Airstream so you can polish it?

If so, I understand your frustration. Amen, god bless you, and me, as I am still polishing my Airstream baby.

All the "green" stripping products from Lowes and Home Depot, do not work. The stronger products require that you remove all plastic products from the exterior, all the reflectors, plastic windows, everything that is not glass...and do so or you will be replacing those items.

Vintage trailer supply has polishing instructions that can help. The process is a big mess that takes hours and hours of polishing...but dang, the vintage trailers look soooooo.... good afterwords.

strip

About 30% of the trailer surface still has a clear coat.
The rest must have worn off over time.
In the non clearcoat areas I can buff to a lusterous shine.
The cleared areas just a dull shiny haze, no black residue,
so I'm assuming there is still spots of clear which have no erroded off
It is a 1970 avion.
thanks.

Did you contact Napier directly? Their toll free number is: (800) 663-9274

We've been to their plant in Delta BC.

Also, Industrial Plastics sells the Removall in smaller quantities - about $45/gallon

Smile Napier

I contacted Napier directly they sent me to two retailers in my area
Pickering and Quebec, both distributors were 70 to 80 dollars
at a minimum 4 gallon or 1 case purchase.
Again, if I required that quantity I would purchase it,but I don't have any other use for the product.
Thanks.

Because of the nasty stuff in paint strippers, a lot of them are off the market or difficult to find. Canadian law may be stricter than in the US. In fact paints aren't as good as they used to be either and to paint bare wood, you now need a primer. Some say the green products are just as good as the oil based ones, but I doubt it. I think in the future only professionals will be able to get a good stripper because they have the equipment to contain the VOC's.

Now if you want the other kind of strippers, and can't find them in Hamilton, take a trip to Buffalo. There are plenty of places there that can accommodate your needs.
