Rock Guard Coating ?

We’ve got some serious crud on our rock guards from our last trip. My question is. Is there a coating on the rock guards that I could damage while cleaning?

If it's the stainless steel ones clean as you would if it were your tow vehicle then use stainless polish. Do not use anything abrasive.

And scrub WITH the grain of the stainless, not across--unless you like obvious scratches going every which way...stainless is somewhat soft and the factory finish fine brushed pattern is hard to restore...don't ask how I found out...

ScotchBrite & WD40

We've had great success using a kitchen sponge that has a scotchbrite side to it. As others have said scrub with the grain of your rock guard.

The pad in combination with WD40 clean them up like new. I just wipe the residue of the scrub off with a clean rag.

Rock Guard

I had 3 M clear plastic coating applied to my rock guards before the first trip. It is great, bugs don’t stick. You could contact most detail shops that apply it to high end cars.

Rock Guard Coating ?

GREAT IDEA on the WD40! I’d forgotten that I use the stuff on my stainless kitchen appliances with fantastic results. Last a long time as well and leaves a microscopic coat to protect further gunk. Love this group.

After spending a bunch of time trying to clean bugs off the front of the AS (and TV), I now take about 10 minutes to squirt Rain-X Window Cleaner on the front parts. I find it makes it much easier to clean off the bugs after coming home. Every once in awhile I wax things too.

Good tip on the WD-40!
