My Airstream was originally silver bumper to bumper but it has been painted twice over the last twenty years. I'm no body or paint man and I'm not sure how to safely remove the paint with-out damaging the aluminum underneth. Would I just use a paint thinner to do the job, or is there a better recommondation?
I use Bix (orange-striped can) spray-on stripper. Takes the clearcoat off within 20-30 seconds (admittedly already damaged from the sun). But I'd be careful of any strong stripper--it will take the paint out of any trim and will damage the plastic in tail lights, etc., and the screw cover stripes. But it won't hurt the metal and washes off with a hose.
