Ready to strip! Silly, not me - my '73 Overlander

Okay – with the excessive amount of rain we’re getting, I am getting water in my trailer. I’ve been picking silicone from the roof for about 6 weeks (time permitting); gobs and gobs of silicone. I should have been putting the Acryl-R in the seams and Vulkum around the windows as I went along, but I didn’t. So, you can guess what I will be doing this weekend - weather permitting. If it’s too rainy, I’ll get a tarp on top.

Thinking about this as I lay in bed, trying to go to go to sleep …. I decide that I do want to strip the remaining clear-plasticoat. (Polishing techniques TBD as I'm contemplating the various methods and final outcomes detailed in length on this site.) I did a bit of research on this already by searching the forums and followed up with some more reading more this morning. It appears that I can go ahead and complete my sealing/caulking and then use the stripper (without degrading the newly applied sealants and gaskets). But before stripping, I guess I’ll need to do some prep work: at least remove the lamps/light covers. What else? Am I missing something?

My Overlander has some significant stars & stripes! I looked about 1,000 images of other Overlanders from the 70’s and don’t’ see nearly the amount of striping that I see on mine. The others only have some blue color within the beltline/rub rails. Have any advice on what to keep and what to lose? If the stars are not original (see picture of rear), then I don’t think I like them.

The wide striping on your trailer isn't OEM for 1973. It looks like the stripes found in 1980s Excella's. Even though it isn't stock, it still looks good, though.
