Question about the Porter Cable random orbital

I bought a Porter Cable random orbital polisher. It looks like an angle grinder with a 7" polishing pad. The polishing pad stem is screwed into what looks like an eccentric mechanism that gives the pad a random orbital pattern. When the buffer pad is placed on the aluminum surface and the unit is turned on, the buffer pad does not rotate - it only "vibrates" in what I presume is a random pattern.

No one at Porter Cable is available until Monday. Question: Is the buffer pad supposed to rotate like an angle grinder as well as impose a random orbital pattern while polishing?

If the Porter Cable polisher operates like a palm sander and does not rotate, is there a speed setting that is optimal for polishing?

I have the same polisher. It is designed to rotate only under light pressure. This prevents burning or damaging the paint.

I also have the PC orbital polisher. Use it for waxing/sealing all the toyz.
I don't think it would be the best choice for spit-shining an Airstream.
Haven't tried....but seems a little small.

I'm sure the "shiners" will chime in...
