Red face Professional Polishing....how much $$$

I own a small luxury detail company that deals only in the high end coach market...

Prevost, Vantare, Monaco, Liberty, and Marathon Coaches

One of my customers sells Airstreams New and Older Models. He wants me to polish out an old Airstream and have it ready for the Tampa Super show in Jan.

I have never done this type of polishing before...i have dewalt 849's (a dozen or so) and some Nuvite...am I heading in the right direction...

I played around with this on a 1952 Airstream coach this week on his lot and it seems to put a mirror finish on the coach....

I might consider getting into Airstream polishing here in Florida, but I have no idea what to charge per foot....any ideas on how much you guys have parted with for professional polishing????

Professional Polishing....how much $$$

Greetings pcsflorida!

Welcome to the Forums!

There is something of a variable in the cost of professional polishing. I had my coach professionally polished almost three seasons back, and had basically three bids between $100 and $125 per linear foot (measured from tip of tongue to edge of rear bumper). These included stripping the existing Plasticoat and Polishing, but no repairs or allowances for areas needing "out-of-the-ordinary attention (a previous owner had tried to polish a large side panel on my coach with sandpaper or steel wool which resulted in an upcharge for the additional labor and materials necessary to correct the mistake). In addition, I wanted my coach to be Platicoated to reduce my future maintenance so that was an up-charge as well. In the end, the job was approaching $175 per linear foot; but the end result was worth the expenditure as my coach looked just as it did the first time that I saw it when it was just a few months old in 1964.

I guess it varies from one area to another and condition of each coach. I paid $600.00 for my 18 ft. Traveler, so roughly, that comes out to $33.00 per/ft.. My trailer is a 1958 model and did not have a clear coat. They did a good job and I was a happy camper.

Hey aztlanco, Where did you have yours polished? I'm looking for someone with experience I can pay to polish my 22 ft Safari for under $100 a foot as I have neither the time or elbow energy to tackle it myself?

After finding the professional rates running $150 and up per lineal foot (as Kevin noted above) we decided to do it ourselves.

As far as technique goes...there are many opinions (search 'polishing'), but we have chosen to go with the Perfect Polish route which uses Nuvite and we're very happy with the results.

Good luck with your business venture ~

Shari
