Polishing Bambi

I thought I'd just give the SS a quick test on the Bambi, which is very splotchy. I figured I couldn't hurt it. So I took the buffer and carefully ran it over roughly a square foot. Some places wouldn't shine up, I guess there must still be clearcoat there, but the spot that did shine up looked spectacular! I'm really excited, time to go start re-reading all the polishing threads!

Now you've done it ;-)

It amuses me all the *test spots* people say they are doing when they start polishing.

You have really just STARTED a long, difficult, yet very rewarding project!

Roll up your sleeves and keep us posted w/pictures!

I think I'm going to need to go out and get some stripper to get the clearcoat off. Then I'll consider my next move.

The story I heard from the Perfect Polish guy was that if you don't do the compounding step, then you can get a shine but it won't last more than a few months because of small iregularities that will continue to corrode and eventually ruin the job. But if you compound it and then get rid of the swirls with a cyclo, the irregularities will all be smoothed out and the shine will last. Which makes sense.

I think if we decide to seriously polish this Bambi we'll probably go ahead and shell out for the nuvite and a cyclo and do it right.
