Is it standard to have some pits, etc. that just won't come out in the polishing phase? Am I being lazy? Could I damage the aluminum if I get too carried away trying to get far enough down to remove it?
I'm just wondering of there is really a perfect polish job.
We too had pits, especially in the front where pebbles get kicked up from the TV.
We minimized them by LIGHT wet sanding with 1000 grit wet or dry followed by 2000 grit...it basically took the rough edges off and smoothed the pits out so the polish didn't build up in the craters.

In watching the airport guys, they advised against using a sanding block due to the shape of the trailer- they held it in their hands and it was folded in quarters so the sanding sides never touched each other, and was unfolded and re-folded as they wore down. The pitted areas that I saw them work on were sanded with 800, then 1200, then 1500, then polished out. Other areas they used the 1200 and 1500 only...
I used both a buffing wheel on a drill and my Foredom Flex-Shaft tool. I didn't go out & buy the Foredom for this purpose, I had it already for use in my jewelry making hobby/business. It's much the same as a Dremmel, just more HP.

Thanks for that! I'm looking at a second Dremel type tool today. I have to do something as I can't get it right by hand. Just doesn't kick like the other areas.
