PermaPlate or not?

Dealer recommending we permaplate our new 2008 27FB classic.
Is coating a good thing to protect the finish or is it not effective?
If it is effective, is this a good product or is there another?

there are many online threads and car forums that discuss the 'permaplate' product from adams polishes...

who is gonna apply it you or the dealer? have you seen how some dealers wash a trailer?

my preference is diy, and using a tested reliable durable polymer sealant...

but getting ANY high quality auto wax on asap may help to delay the corrosion issues many of us are dealing with now....

any non abrasive, high quality auto wax will help...

Their brochure says the product is applied by trained personnel at the dealership and if it fails to perform per the guarantee they will replace the damaged area at no cost and that it is tranferrable to a second owner at no additional cost...I've asked for a copy of the guarantee and asked if it specifically applicable to Airstream coaches with clearcoat finishes.

Over the years there have been many companies selling paint sealants for automobiles and such. In fact, many years ago we did pay for such a thing on a car. The fine print on the guaranty said it was necessary to use that company's maintenance kit to retain coverage. Perhaps some of these products do work, but I would point out that their website mentions oxidation, corrosion, and discoloration caused by very specific things. What about other causes, for example, would they cover discoloration caused by road tar? Does replacing the damaged area mean replacement of that part or replacement of the sealant over that area.

We have been happy with Walbernize and there are also many other good products you can apply yourself for much less cost.

Thank you for your quick responses. I searched the web and this time found a lot of material, mostly from car club people. Your responses were informative and provided great alternatives...especially liked the Meguires references. On the other hand, the car clubbers responses on the web were almost comedic in their bluntness, and they said much the same!


Thank you for your input...we've decided to apply a little discipline and wash and protect regularly....it will be a part of our new "EXECUTIVE HEALTH PROGRAM"!
