P & S estimate

I have a 1999 Excella and we full-time and keep improving it. My next goal is complete restoration of the exterior. It is not bad and can send pics. Without pulling up in their driveway, what would this cost? Anyone use these guys and my guess is yes. Please give me some advice.

P + S has an excellent reputation in the Airstream Community.

There is no way for any of us to even ballpark a guess without pictures and a detailed description of the work you propose to have accomplished. Even then, it would be, at best, a guesstimate.

If your rig is watertight, why not leave well enough alone? A little imperfection here and there adds "character"

I got a guess-timate from P&S 3 years ago for my 99 Excella 34'. (their guess based on my description) The scope of work was to strip the clear coat that is pealing, polish the corrosion off the window frames and awning hardware, spray on a new clear coat, and replace the blue stripes and lettering. If memory serves me correctly, their estimate was ~$8,000 minimum.

I have had work done by P&S and have found their work to be excellent and the charges very reasonable. Given their proximity to me, I would not look elsewhere. Whatever their price, I am sure it is fair and the work will be excellent.

ps The folks in Jackson Center send them some overflow work from time to time when they cannot accommodate the need in a timely manner. If you go there pleas tell Steve I said "Hello."

We have visited P&S several times for having work done. Steve and his crew have been very helpful with the restoration of our trailer. It's always a pleasure to visit.

We are working on the interior this year and hope all is finished by some time in March then off to Oregon and Washington..2 states we have not visited. Hopefully next year we will have the trailer exterior done. I know some do not think it necessary but this is our home so we would love to have a nice looking home. Also if there are any shell problems that can be addressed. Less to worry about it. Love all the input.

I can't find the before pictures but a fellow I know bought a used 90's Classic using a mid 90's graphic style that was somewhat garish by today's standards. You don't see many of these but I found a picture (not his trailer). The trailer had sat for years unused in a campground in Florida and the salt air and UV really did a job on the finish. The trailer was built with the satin finish aluminum that was used when Airstream used to do the clear coating at the factory. They trailer had a couple of damaged panels and was suffering from a bad case of clear coat peal. I recommended P&S to hime and he asked them to make the trailer look new with the current graphics being used by Airstream. P&S polished the trailer, replaced the bad panels, clear coated it, put on current graphics and new awnings. Needless to say it was a spectacular job and after seeing this trailer personally, I'm a believer in these folks and the quality work they do.

The give away of the trailer's age was the wheel style, which are original.

Unfortunately I heard the trailer got pummeled by a hail storm a few years later and I no longer know if it is still on the road or its current condition.

P&s

Yes their work is excellent, but make sure you get what you pay for. They gave me a quote for Belt-line over the top strip and re-coat (31' Excella Classic) and only did the top over the windows giving me a credit of $700 on the $3300 estimate (2005 price). I was disappointed as there were some really ugly blemishes in the unprocessed areas.

P & S put 4 nice deep scratches in my unit while installing an awning for me. No reason for it, no mention. Of it to me. Didn't really notice until after I had left and returned home. Not happy at all about it and it rashes my backside every time I look at them. I will not return to P & S anytime soon. Expected the best from these folks based on everything I've read and heard. Disappointed customer here.

We are dropping our '91 Excella off at P & S in June for stripping polishing and recoating. They were very straight forward on the phone and they've been a family business since 1968. To me that speaks volumes. Our issues are on the awning side and on the top of the end caps. Unfortunately our custom decal stripe has to be removed to do the entire job properly.

I called them recently and it would be about $10,000 to do our trailer. They said it would take about 2 weeks.

Let us know how it goes and pics please..good luck!

Took our '68 there to have a bunch of work done. Left without our re-done/updated beautiful '68 propane tanks. Magically went missing. Gave us new white ones and a can of paint. Had lots of other issues with them too. Wanted all original stuff we were having updated returned to us but said they threw it all away. Stove, frig, vent etc.

We had our 1997 Excella 1000 re-coated on top in 2006-still looks good, except for the top corners. Also had new flooring, axles, and leaks fixed a few years ago.
They are very busy and you need to be very specific in what you want. Steve &crew didn't get around to recoat those panels, but i have no problems taking it back to do more work.
They have been great to work with over the years.

P & S Pictures of our AS Polishing & Recoating

We received some pictures today from P & S Trailer Service in Helena, Ohio today showing the progress of polishing & recoating our Airstream's exterior.
They reminded me that you have to break some eggs to make an omelet!
So far I'm liking this omelet!

Thanks for all the honest reviews. I will avoid them in the future. They seem to be fine if you're not too picky or if you don't pay attention to detail. Otherwise, they don't seem to be of perfection caliber.
