One tank down and one to go!

After nearing killing myself stripping the AS, I decided to tackle something today a little smaller. So I got back to polishing my propane tanks. I had started one last wee but got sides tracked with the stripping. So back to work on them today.

I decided to start today on the second tank. I started by wet sanding with 220grit, then went to 400, then 600, then 1200. Then I compound with turtle wax red heavy duty compound, then the white compound, then polished with my brand new cyclone with mothers aluminum polish. Is the tank perfect? Heck no! it's a 36 year old tank that has lots of nicks, dings, and deep scratches. Did it come out nice and shiney? Heck yes, so I'm happy. Took about 6 hours start to finish.

And I actually enjoyed this job, can't wait until tomorrow so can finish the other tank and then start on the awning arms or hubcaps!

very cool, Annette. Are you covered with black polish from head to toe?

Sure am! And I have a washing machine full of "for polishing only" clothes and lots of polishing rags and terry cloth bonnets. But boy it was fun! Can't wait to get back at it tomorrow!

Tank looks great. Did bullydog help? Mine always help when I have a project to do. The last progect was spreading a pile of dirt to make a pad for the A/S and I look over to see Diesel (dogs name) and he was pushing dirt all over the place. It helps to have a helper.

Tank looks sweet! Can't believe you did it in 6 hrs. How long was the stripping event?

I don't even know if mine are aluminum... low on my priority list. Still haven't finished the window gaskets. I'm using the continual rain as an excuse. Plus, other priority items are popping up. Sigh.
