How often do you polish?

Hi all...I'm new here. My husband and I recently purchased a 1979 28' Ambassador International.

He has mentioned wanting to remove the damaged clearcoat and polish the AS...question is: How often do you need to re-polish once you're done? He says every 4-5 months. Just looking for advice/confirmation...

Thanks!
Suzie

How often to polish

Hi Suzie,

I guess it all depends on how compulsive your are, the environment where you do most of your camping and where you store your trailer. I have a 2004 Classic which we purchased new and until recently I was waxing every 4 month with Walbernize and wiping the Airstream down between waxings with McQuire's quick detail spray. The Airstream always looks like the day we purchased it. Several weeks ago after removing several areas of corrosion along the seams I switched to a product called "Rejex". This stuff puts a really slick finish on the trailer and the rejex people said I could continue to use the McQuires Quick detailer between applications without damaging the Rejex finish. Most of the polish manufacturers I have contacted say every six month is usually sufficient. But, hey if you have the time, waxing and polishing the Airstream is one of the best ways to always be on top of potential problems.

Polishing

Hello!
I have 2 Airstreams that I polish, a 68 Sovereign 30 footer and a 59 Traveler 18 footer. I polish one time a year and that seems to hold back the tarnish. I will say that some years I only touch up with the Cyclo and others I will cut and buff, 2 or three steps.

It all depends on how blinding you want to be at any given time!
