Smile How do we remove lettering glue from exterior?

Our 1977 has state lettering glued on either side. Some of the letters have come off. What's the best thing to clean off the glue? Thanks! rrw

FOr this kind of thing, I always try through a list of solvents that depends on the toxicity of the solvent and the chemical makeup of the material to be removed:

1. Try rubbing alcohol; if that doesn't work, then ...
2. Try mineral spirits (paint thinner); if that doesn't work, then ...
3. Try acetone; if that doesn't work, then ...
4. Blow away the affected area with a cannon and replace everything.

If the cannon is not an option, try a heat gun and a rag. The heat gun will soften the glue residue, and it MIGHT rub off with a rag.
Make sure and don't burn the glue residue by getting the aluminum too hot. Then it's definitely a problem to get off.

3M Adhesive Remover from the auto parts store.

It is what the car dealers use to remove the glued on stickers. molding adhesive and weather stripping adhesive with out damaging the paint.

Lighter fluid works wonders too. That is what I use at work to remove old lables from the plastic displays on used equipment that we buy. Haven't mared a display yet.

I believe that the chemical is naptha or some spelling like that...

glue removal

Try using WD-40 I found that this worked better than all products mentioned. Dont get me wrong, it still takes a little elbow grease but it works well!
