How do I restore 1930s Exterior Aluminum?

Our new son is a 1935 Vintage Cousin with a brush painted exterior. I have the paint nearly off with aircraft stripper. I have heard various things about what to do next. Ultimately we want a matte finish, we never want him to look new. We have heard that the older aluminum needs to be handled differently, that we need to chemically etch to get a uniform look. What do the veterans think?
