How do I remove black tarp marks?

The previous owner must have tarped the trailer at some point. It's a 1960 safari and in several large spots on the side it has huge grey smudges. I don't plan to polish the whole thing, but I'd like to get it back to an even gray color. Any suggestions?

One of my favorites for removing anything like that is Castrol SuperClean. It is in a purple gallon jug and can be had at AutoZone. The stuff is great! thry it full strength and use a soft scrub brush. It may take few times.

Unless Castrol has changed their formula, the base of Super Clean is sodium hydroxide, which is used as an etchant to prepare aluminum for plating. It might do more harm than good.
