Fixing a scratch on a brushed finish?

Due to an incident with a narrow gate in a Texas State Park campground, we now have a scratch down the side of our 1997 brushed finish trailer. The scratch is through the clearcoat but not too deeply into the aluminum. We would like to fix it so that we maintain the brushed finish and blends into the rest of the trailer. Any ideas or experience?

Thanks,
Dianna

Walbernize?

The walbernize folks are usually very helpful with questions like this.

I sent an email to the Walbernize folks and they said they didn't have any good ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If the scratch has not gotten contaminated with paint from the gate I would clean it with a very fine rubbing compound. If it contaminated I would use a bit stronger compound and then go to fine. In either case rub in the direction of the grain on the aluminun . Then I would get the proper can of spray clearcoat from a dealer and seal the scratch. You want to stop discoloration and more possible clearcoat damage. You may want to mask off surrounding regions prior to spraying so if it is not as "shiny" where you spray it will be less noticable.

Just my $.02 worth.
