Put your pet to work.....
Dip him in Nuvite and let him loose on the top of your trailer!! May save you some work
Pictures look good. Looks like Mothers is a good way to go.

Great Pictures 53
I found out the only thing to do by hand is the 1200 wet dry sand and the final wax job. The compounding stuff I'm using now has made my job much easer even on the oxidized areas.
Great pictures, I guess I am going to have to give my wife a digital camara for her birthday. hehehe
I got in 6 hrs today and made lots of progress. Had one major set back. I decided my panel fron heck still didn't look as good as it should so I started over. After all I have a new routine that works !!! BIG MISTAKE.. Looked worse when I re did it.
The PO told me the unit went back to the factory in 1988 and I'm wondering if they replaced that panel with the newer processed aluminum. It shines but moe like lead shines. Spent over and hour trying to get back even !!
I did try something new. Instead of using the mineral sprits at the end I used flour (self rising) and rubed it in with sweatshirt material and I will continue to do that. Removes the black and may even add a little shine. It's my new last step before the wax.

Garry Garry Garry...
Man Garry, you got me on the edge of my seat wanting to see some pics!!
6 hours!! You DA' Man
I don't think I could do more than about 3 w/o my arms giving out.
Sorry you had a setback today. I'm real interested in this panel of yours.
I got in about 2.5 hours today for a new total of 20.5. I just compounded some more. This time I tried using G6 more followed by F7 to get rid of my white speckles. Seemed to work a little. Hard to tell until I cyclo.
53- after you compound with G6, do you next compound with F7? How many times do you have to cyclo with F7 to get the swirls out? How fast do you move the cyclo across the skin?
Are we having fun yet?

Da Man`
Safari Tim & Garry,
You got that right, 6 hrs is an awesome display of "sticking to the job"~!!
Like you, I can't wait to see those pictures of Garry's work.
Forget Christmas, make it EARLIER...lol
Thanks for the tip about "flour"..I'll tuck it in the list of things.
It's hard to know what to say without the pictures of that panel.
KWIMV??
Tim,

That's basically it. I try to adjust my approach for the differences in the skin's condition. I find G6, when used as the first attack, will always get me there with the least amount of work. Again, this is where I use the drill with the wool bonnet. The amount of pressure and speed is similar to doing it by hand..Just by working up and down, (12x12") then sideways and then switch back..Whatever it takes after that, to clear it to a nice finish.
I would add; I rarely cyclo with just F7, at times I'll use C instead. The main thing is to keep the polishing steps going in one direction toward that, "Perfect Polish". which is step S.
I find that I work at a slow to moderate pace as, I'm always watching for the results. As soon as I get that, I stop and, move on to the next step.. While compounding with G6 or F7, I always use just several dabs of the compound and, work it slowly over the area I want to work on..Keep the speed of the drill at slow till I have it spread out to where I can work it in. Then, toward the end, I'll speed it up to "buff" it and get a clean, polish effect..Seems to work with consisted results.
I might add, of late, I find the swirls are almost none existence or kept to a minimum. Maybe my eyes are failing me...lmao
Keep up the good work guys..I'm getting my supplies today, according to the shipper's track number. I may be gone from here for awhile...lol, WORKING..
ciao

Will now pay the price
Well I over did it. Hurt my back in 1961 and it has been a problem ever since. Today I can't get much use out of my left leg so I will have to lay off for a while. I thought using the scafold would keep me for straining and bending that brings on the back problem. The 6hrs in one day wouldn't make any difference, 3hr a day over several days would catch up to me. Just have to double up on the Celebrex and wait till I can get back at it. Lots of things I shouldn't do that I do anyway and this was one of them.
Will continue to keeping up with your progress.
Hanging out on this fourm is about all I will be up to for awhile.
Keep up the good work I'm still inspired and will be back at it even if it takes till next spring.
Garry

Bummer Garry
Sorry to hear about your back. Hope you can get to feeling better. That's a real bummer.
Like I said in an earlier post, the mind is willing but the body is weak
About 3 weeks ago when I first started experimenting, I picked up the cyclo and used it a little to high over my head and my back has been bugging ever since.
It's very stiff, but I can keep going so I guess I'm lucky.
I have an old injury from tripping over my nephew while skating about 15 years ago. It seems to creep back every now and then.
I figure by the time I get the trailer polished I'll be too crippled to use it
Take your time te get feeling better...

Bummmmer is right~!~
Garry, I'm real sorry to hear that...Hope both of you will take care while working around your A/S..
The good news on this front is: I got my supplies...
The bad news was; I broke a mortar tooth in half and, ended up spending nearly three hours under the Dentist's care (or abuse?) this afternoon..
So, I wasn't able to get to the A/S at all..`!
I plan to sleep in the A/S tonight and, get a early start tomorrow morning..As soon as it warms up..
ciao

After polish protection....
53- My research says most people suggest using Glass Wax for protecting the trailer after the polish.
I think its because it is a clear wax. Problem is the manufacturer of Glass Wax has stopped making it.
I saw another product at a hardware store (forgot the name) it said it was wax for glass to remove water spots and to protect it. It looked like a green paste in the little tub they offered.
How is the car wax working out? Does it take away much of the shine or distort the image a lot?
It's kinda hard to determine from the pics...

Good question
Tim, it seems to work just perfectly...
Also, heard of Glass wax and, found the same as you...
If you can find it..a product called, No- Streak by Gel-Gloss is supposed to be the same ...
I couldn't find that...
I'll send some more pictures later..
I think it might have taken it down just a tiny bit on the shine..but, NOT MUCH..~!~
For me, this is a small price to pay, in order to preserve the finish..
Which, is what I was after..

That kinda speaks volume, wouldn't you agree?

I used Turtle Wax for cars !! Just because I just happen to have a new tub of the stuff. I also have some caranuba wax and it says its best for clear coat finish. Will try some next.
Good news the T Wax did not reduce the shine. Don't know about the warter spots being house bound today but plan to look see tomorrow.
I stopped using the Cyclo I was using it to take off the wax but it is quicker to use the sweat shirt.
My process now:
1. Compound using black stuff and 9" buffer with 3M course pad.
2. Clean surface with mineral sprits
3. Compound with Southern Shine 9" 3M course pad .
4. Cean surface with mineral sprits.
5. Switch to fine 3M pad and buff with SS.
6. Clean surface with flour.
7. Wax and buff.
8. Move to the next area and start over.
In most cases I can skip #3 & 4 depends on how bad it was to start. Also, where there are deep scratches I use 1200 grit wet dry after step 1, step 3 takes out the sand paper marks.
I think we are all using a slightly different method.

That's the cool thing about this forum and this thread in particular.
We are giving people different ideas on how to accomplish the same thing. And by stating our problems and successes I think is a big benifit to this community
For me this thread is helping me stay on course. I want something new to post each day!!
Going for my 4 rivet here ya know

couldn't stand it
Took my pain pill and Celebrex and went to ck out the A/S.
Couldn't stand it, picked up the buffer and went at it. Hehehe
Did one panel and if I feel OK I will do another later today.
I decided on a rate scale similar to Tim based on 1 to 15
1. Own an A/S = 3 points
2. Wash = 1
3. Strip = 2
4. Polish&wax= 2
5. Looks OUTSTANDING= 1
6. Willing to post before & after pictures = 1
7. Complete entire A/S thru the step 4 = 5 points
Based on the pictures both of you guys are 10's
Figure I'm an 8 right now.
What do you think Tim, 53 Flying Cloud gets spotted an extra point for organization skill ??
Also what happend to Flyfisher ????

Only if Safrai Tim gets one too..
What the heck? "Give yourself one."
Well, today's work started early and, yet I wasted precious time cleaning up my work area (aftermat of the heavy rain). I made the mistake of trying to use a slightly damp wool bonnet.
Never make that mistake again..lol Makes a awful mess~!~
Seems like the morning's weather was against me. First it was foggy, then the wind started up and, blew for the better part of the morning..
I was able to completely polish one panel and then wax it before quiting time...Checked on all the others. Looked good.
Work time..(sorta) From 9 am to just before 5 pm. No breakfast or lunch, just one coffee break, which later resulted in another BREAK...lmao
I'll post a few of the pictures I took today.
This one shows the panel all finis.
keep up the work~
ciao
