I hated polishing!!!!! My trailer was in ok shape (like average) and I love the polished look. I bought all the tools, took my time and started in... WOW, what a job. I don't know how to explain how bad it sucks. Once you get a section done and you see how nice it looks you can't stop. I've been doing a total rebuild of my 72 TradeWind so I stuck to it straight for the summer. I got most of it done and had to finish other stuff (weather - I live in NH). I paid a co. out of Portland, ME to finish it for me. When the guy came down to look it over (They do oil trucks and the like) he couldn't believe the shine. He couldn't get it to polish up as clear and ended up dulling down the stuff I did to blend it all toghter. It looks pretty good (not as good as hoped) BUT....... I HATE POLISHING.
I paid alittle under $600 for the gear to do it and got most of it done. Places that I didn't finish made it look like a car in primer. Any area that isn't polished really stands out and looks UGLY, worse then if I just left it all alone.
I pd. the co. $600 to do the whole trailer and they made it All look the same (about middle quality)
The co. I used had it done in one day, with two guy's working. I spent 2 almost 2 and a half months and still didn't finish it. Granted what I did looked better. I don't care about the $$ so much but HATED doing it.
My two cents

So, how do you really feel?
I appreciate the clarity with which you made your point. I need to touch up my already polished (by previous owner) MH. Would you like to sell me your polishing gear?

I think I'll keep it and rope some kid into it this summer. Maybe I went alittle deep on the feelings. O' did I mention "I HATE POLISHING".
I do see that cyclo on ebay now and then.... if that helps at all.

Yeah, I was thinking along those same lines when I woke up this morning. Too bad its raining and my back has been out of sorts for the last few days. I can't imagine making it worse on purpose

Gents:
New to the site. We purchased a 27' Soverign that needs the front center skin replaced along with the back window. I am planning to gut most of the interior as this is my sons project for a paragliding hang out. What are the different compounds you are using to polish? G6, F7 etc. Where do you find these? Also do you know of a good site for skins and R&R processes?
Thanks
Bryan

Welcome Bryan~
You couldn't do any better for skin / panel replacement than Oasis RV in Tucson. They have been around a long time, have a long list of satified customers and only handle Airstreams. Vintage or new, doesn't matter to them. Joe Pershing runs a fine place.
As for the Nuvite, try Vintage Trailer Supply. They'll treat you right and get your order right out to you.
What are you plans for the rear window? How much needs replacing?
Keep us posted on your progress and we want to see some pictures.
Brad

Alansd, things to remember..
1st..get yourself a piece of scrap aluminum to work with. Try scratching the name into it and do your work on that..I betcha will have better results on your trailer..When you get to it with what you learn from the scrap piece..Good luck~ I also have a few scratches to remove..
