Extra striping on '71 Overlander - very difficult to remove
I'm the proud new owner of a '71 Overlander that I've started to do a little work on. Overall it is in very good condition for the age and has already been polished by the previous owner albeit a few years ago. Anyway the one pesky thing that I'm dealing with is the blue striping that is on the trailer. From looking at many pictures of Overlander's from this era it appears that this one has an additional blue strip outside of the trim piece as you can see in the picture. This piece is very cracked and in generally bad shape so I'm trying to remove it. I'm left with some pretty nasty adhesive residue and it is proving almost impossible to remove. Some of the things I've tried are the Jasco stipper which helps soften the blue sticker to remove but does nothing with the adhesive. I've tried the 3M 8987 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner with little luck. About the best and worst way that seems to get most of it is some of the 3M Adhesive Cleaner and a scotch pad followed by a lot of polishing with a cotton polishing wheel. So I'm looking for any other options or advice as well as some opinions as to whether I should just clean it as best I can and re-apply a stripe there (even if it isn't supposed to have one there)??
Thanks!!
