exterior worries and source for info

Hello, I am not sure if this question fits forum, but I recently bought a 2006 Classic, and although the filiform problem is very minor, restricted to very small areas (except the water heater grate), I very much want to know if the small areas can be contained over the long term or if the finish is destined to have a spread of it over time. I also want to learn the best ways to treat it, etc. Other owners with history to share? Contacts?
