Exterior Polishing Advice

Hello all and Happy New Year

I would like to strip & polish the exterior of my 1998 25ft CD/Catering Airstream. Firstly is this possible as I have seen information saying its not possible to polish the later models of Airstreams because the aluminum is different than the older models.

If it is possible can anyone tell me where to obtain stripping and polishing products and tools in the UK.

Also my Zip Dee awning is missing some parts, a travel bracket and a rafter arm. Again can anyone help with getting these parts in the UK

Regards Thripplewood.

I think you have been told correctly about the polishing on newer coaches. If you look at the topmost vetical band across the page you will see "portal, user CP" ect. Keep going to the right and you will see the search button. Search for polish and you will find more about making your coach into a mirror than you ever wanted to know, good luck

You can polish a newer Airstream. I am in the process of polishing my 94 25" Classic. It's a lot of work though. Just think "it's going to be a lot of work" and multiply that by 10.

Hi Thripplewood,

you can order POR Stripper from http://www.frost.co.uk/ and the Rolite Polishes from http://www.rhoba-chemie.com/html/home_gb.html. They call it Rhoba, as they are the Rolite License Keepers in Germany. Both works great on our 1971 Ambassador. Good luck!!

Bjoern

PS: Are you going to the Birmingham Caravan Show in Feb.? Airstream will show their European Trailer Modell there for the first time...

HI - you can contact zip dee directly. They are great to work with and would probably ship to the uk - 'specially if you ask nicely and pay extra.

They still have parts for almost everything they ever made and how to help online.

Hello All
Thanks for the good advice, yes Pschoerrn we are planning to go the Birmingham caravan show as we would like to see European version. Is the Mac Donalds Airstream in the UK ?

Craftsman do you have any pictures you could send me of your Classics polishing results. I'd like to see what is possible and just worried if I start without the correct advice and tools I might do some perminent damage to the skin.

Regards Thripplewood.

I found a reference for polishing that states that alcdad aluminum can be pollished and airstream used this type untill mid 1980. Hence, the implication that newer coaches, lacking this type of aluminum, can not be. I have no personal knowledge myself. The attached article from vintage airstream is a nice set of instructions on the process and what you will need. Goodluck/
