Endcap Clearcoat removal ?

The endcaps on my Excella are in need of clearcoat removal and a recoat. What is the best type of tape to use when covering the areas / panels not to be stripped ? Or a type of tape that will not come off while in the stripping process ? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Davis

The plasticoat material is normally good for 5 to 6 year.

Yours is 18 years old.

Whatever tape you use, will most likely remove some of the original plasticoat.

The roof area ages first, followed by the rest of the areas.

You can leave it alone, or consider a complete replasticoating.

Attempting to salvage what you have left, has odds of nil to none.

Ask others on these Forums about the life of plasticoat, or lack thereof.

Andy

I would use the green tape it is the easiest to remove... The blue will work ok too but the green is suppose to come off better or come off better after a longer time of being on...

Thanks for the replies. I have had the top half sides and one qtr panel on each end reclearcoated 2 yrs ago and I do not want any of that damaged or the bottom half of the trailer damaged since those areas are in good condition. I want to make sure that what ever tape is used that it will not let the stripper seap under it and damage the good areas. The roof area I am not worried about as much since it needs to be recoated also. Any suggestions on a good tape that the stripper will not make it peel off while trying to remove the clear would be helpful.

Is the green tape used at auto body shops ? Will the green tape stick better than the blue that is for home painting ?
