Door handle turning cloudy.

I know I read some things about keeping metals from oxidizing (filiform?) I've noticed the handle out side the door is really goofy looking now. Is this something I should worry about or do something about?

I am assuming that you are referring to the grab handle, not the actual handle in the door. Ours is filiformed pretty badly. There is a post here on the forums about using Griot's Metal Polish to remedy this issue. You may want to do a Google search on that topic.

If your Airstream is being exposed to coastal or road salt environment, you must treat bare metal areas with corrosion preventive products such as CorrosionX and repair any corroded areas promptly to keep corrosion under control. There are many threads on the process here, search filiform corrosion.

Your grab handle corrosion is probably not filiform but probably is corrosion, That is a good indicator the other areas such as panel rivet holes and panel edges need ongoing corrosion protection.

We have had no corrosion anywhere on our 4 1/2 year old Airstream, but it has not been exposed to salt environments and we have a periodic inspection and treatment schedule. Takes about an hour a four times a year.

Plasma, as a second thought what you are describing as cloudiness may only be the factory temporary coating on the door handle and tail light housing. Something like a varnish, shiny when new but soon gives to cloudy from sun and weather.

Just take some auto polish and rub them good with it, it should come off and show shiny aluminum. Then treat with CorrosionX regularly.

I'll try to get some photos of it tomorrow.

I also have a little dust on the rear bumper and a little rust on the stairs

Handle corrosion

My 2007 handle was clear coated and corroding under the clear coat. Aluminum polishing compound does not work on clear coat. I masked it off and stripped it with paint remover. Unlike the tail lights it stripped off quite easily. Then polished and waxed it. A quick polish twice a year keeps it bright.
