Do all years need to be stripped prior to polish?

I have a 82 Excella just doesn't look like it has coating needing to be stripped prior to polish. Best way to tell?

Red, you'll know it still has a clear coat as soon as you try to polish it.

Put a dab of the good old fashioned opaque, white toothpaste on the tip of your finger, and rub a little spot on the trailer for a while. If the toothpaste turns black, then you are polishing the trailer, and what you are seeing is aluminum oxide. If nothing happens besides smearing some toothpaste on your trailer, then you have clear coat. The year of your trailer, they clear-coating them, so unless it has been removed, or has weathered completely away, you have clear coat.

good luck!
