Besides the obvious, that you have to maintain the polish...what are some of the disadvantages of polishing your trailer?
I have come up with a couple already...and we aren't even done yet!
1. The neighbor with no morning sun now has to pull their shades at the breakfast table... <teeheehee>
2. The reflection off of it has burned & killed the grass adjacent to it...
3. Sitting outside next to it at happy hour I've got a killer sunburn...on one side of my face...
4. The reflection off the concave door will melt your nylon door mat...
5. You can't sneak up on anyone anymore...
6. You have to "entertain" all those nosy neighbors that are now your "new best friends"...
More than once the reflection off it has freaked me out while we were travelling. Once we were driving through flat farm country, and I looked in the sideview mirror and the trailer's reflection of the blue sky/puffy clouds/flat fields was so convincing that for an instant I thought it wasn't there at all. Oh my god, we lost the trailer! But a glance in the rearview showed it was still there. Kind of unnerving though...
The wife nags me about the reflections in the breakfast window almost everyday. Shari could have a point, maybe it is killing the grass (weeds) next to it? Sometimes when pulling it I get a reflection that will set me off for a second or two, like the trailer is starting to pass me or something.
One good thing is now I can check the tailights on my tow vehicle very easily.
All you are describing is Urban symptoms.
Just wait for all the "great outdoors" headlines:
Rutting elk destroys Airstream
Forest fire started by polished Airstream
Roadrage: Airstream owner shoots his own trailer thinking he saw a mad driver
Airstream owner found dead next to polished trailer, assumed heart attack due to seeing his own reflection early in the morning.
Airstream owner drives through his own trailer, blinded by his headlights.
Science news: Airstream owners discover ultimate light source, by placing a simple light bulb between 2 polished trailers. After removing the light, the area stayed illuminated for 68 days.

While at the Rocky Mountain VAC Rally a couple of weeks ago, the concave door of Herb Spies' super-shiny trailer melted his door mat & carpet! Fortunately, it was in a campground with gravel around the trailers, but if we were boondocking at elevation...who knows!? Pretty scary...
Most city ordinances prohibit reflective surfaces which produce excessive glare and reflections.
Is there a reason for the Airstream clear coat other than protection?
