Compounding out some baaaddd corrosion

Hi All,
Learning how to post pics.
Took a break from cutting bolts that wouldn't free up from the black tank pan to do some polishing.

I hope they post O.K.

Hi John,
Thanks for the welcome. There is no shame in cheese!?!!!

I have been on here for a little while.... lurker, before I got my Tradewind. Been a member for close to a year now.

The photos are of the back of the TW. The corrosion is from where a license tag light used to be. And, yes,,, I have a correct replacement from VTS, but the outline of the old fixture doesn't really match up with the new one. Can't wait to to put the new light on. Every little advance is sooooo major for me. I love my Tradewind.

Hi Shari,
It really was a mess. Yeah, baaaddd stuff. When I first saw that patch, I was thinking... ' never'... then ... 'well maybe'... then.. ' gonna make this work'.
Working really carefully. The deep pitting is starting to blend in. I am really surprised at how well it is going. Slowww, but well.

Talking looks nice.....

try some dawn dish soap and a sheet of 2000 grn sandpaper from 3M....really lightly just pass over.....lightly....this will help even out the divits....then compound or a heavy nuvite...and it should be smooth...

Rear curbside running light

O.K.,
I didn't want to crawl under the black tank today either. I wanted to create something pretty...so.... I removed an old rusted running light. Polished the skin in the area and mounted a new light.
A lot of work, but so very rewarding.

Hi Leefields,
Thanks for the tip. I'll try the Dawn and 2000 grit to speed things up just a little.
Was afraid to try sanding, the pitting is really deep. Even the deep pit are starting to blend in a little.

Thanks again for the info.
Love this forum.
