cleaning a '97 satin finish

Over the years I have poured over this forum but have yet to find the answer. I have a 97 Safari satin finish that I had the clear coat removed 4 years ago. It looked good for awhile. But now I want to give it a good wash, clean it and wax it. But I have yet to find a cleaner that takes off all the water stains. Some polishes have made a test spot "too shiny" others like Goof Off, WD40, aluminum cleaners ave not made a dent. Any ideas for cleaning? Thanks. Tim

I saw this old question. Here is my take: I think the only way to get water spots out is to polish. That's what happens when the clear coat is gone. It likely should have been either recoated right away once it started to fail or polished (which is what I did). Of course once you commit to polishing, it never ends LOL. Of course you can just live with the spots and have fun camping anyway!
