buff pad contamination. old wax or walbernize?

seems to be some kind of ancient wax on my FC ( not a clearcoat). its a waxy grime that you can scratch off easily but that doesnt wash off. maybe very old walbernize or previous owner mystery wax job. i think it contaminates my buffing pads and leaves 'ghosts' in the finish. is there a product that is best for wax removal?

I have used everything from paste paint remover to Goof off which is some 'pants on fire' acetone. Paint remover like zip strip will probably get all that off without sending you to the moon in your head Ha!...

thank you
i ended up using 'simple green' and a light duty 3M pad. the simple green was good for hosing off without environmental worries. the polish turned out amazing. i am very pleased. ...now that i'm done!
