Acid

I just bought my 1981 Airstream and was told by the seller that he had used some type of polish that had acid in it. I read that this can cause pinhole leaks but so far have not seen any leaks.
What should I do now to the exterior to repair any damage that this acid based polish may have done to the exterior? It still doesn't shine. I'm concerned now with the damage that he may have caused so if anyone has any ideas of the damage this may have done and how to correct it, please contact me. Also, once this is repaired, what is the best way to get rid of the oxidation and make it shine a little. Thanks,
Mike
