28 Feet of Fun

We started the polishing process last weekend and it is going pretty well. We hope to have the first cut done before we leave on Thanksgiving morning for Bisbee. Here is one photo of our progress. We will post more as we progress. The top is much easier than the rest for some reason. At some point a PO sprayed out the trailer with some sort of clear finish that is a real bear to get off. We have used BIX Airplane stripper with limited results. It comes off with the buffing wheel but takes patience.

Where can you get it done for $100.00 per foot???????

There's a guy not far from us, that just raised his prices, to $300.00 per foot, and has customers.

WOW.

I thought the price of gas was bad.

I will remember that... maybe we will save a section of the final for the restoration rally. Could be a Zen thing for others to share.

Indeed! I had no idea that the prices were that high. Man, that would cost around $9000 for a trailer our size. It had better look like an American Airlines Jet when they were finished for that kind of money.

Here in Austin there's a crew that will do it for around $100/linear foot. But that's still too rich for my blood. Mine will be self-polished, or not at all...

L&S, your rig is looking great. Keep it up!

I foresee Popeye arms in your future and the sore muscles to prove you've polished at least a 24 footer. Looking great. What is your method and what are you doing differently on the sides vs. the top?

Mine could use a touch up too and I live closer than Richard.

We are using the high speed method with the products from Jestco. It is working pretty well, but we have had a few surprises. Do you remember the discolration around the water heater and furnace vents? Well, that was like that because whatever clear coat was there became discolored. Someone stripped the curb side, but not the street side. The top does not appear to have been coated and is the easiest so far to polish. I do not know what the coating was, but it did not strip very well at all. Polishing it off was the fastest.

We can just all meet at your place, Richard, You, and us and we'll have a polising party.
