Rebuilding of our '56 Safari's windows starts
here.
Be careful, the frames are pretty fragile when loose - super easy to "catch" with the power tools. I did use a
Foredom Flex-Shaft (like a heavy-duty Dremmel tool - I already had it in my jewelry-making toolkit) for corners & tight places.
I tried not to use a hammer when straightening out the kinks - it's too easy to over-stretch the thin aluminum. I used
parallel pliers and a
hand seamer to fix kinks on the windows and various other parts during the restoration.
Unlike the trailer skins, the window frames are not made with Alclad aluminum so they will not polish up to the same super-shiny "mirror finish" as the exterior panels - but they blend in. We opt'd to leave ours a satin finish and only polish the exterior. We are happy with how they ended up...good luck!
