1956 Window Polishing

I have just started working on a 56 Flying Cld. Not having that much time at the moment I have removed my first window. My question for you polishers out there. I'm using a 3/8 air drill because I can see that these windows are thin and the drill only spins at 2000 rpm. I am using some small polishing wheels with the black, green and white polishing compound. Should I expect that these frames will come up like the trailer skin or not. What kind of hammer would be best for getting out some of the small dings ? Would a dremel be used for getting into the tight spots ? I really like these forums and have read a lot of great ideas from you all, thanks for posting !

What I did to my windows (also a ’56 Flying Cloud) starts here. There is more here and here.

Good luck!

Rebuilding of our '56 Safari's windows starts here.

Be careful, the frames are pretty fragile when loose - super easy to "catch" with the power tools. I did use a Foredom Flex-Shaft (like a heavy-duty Dremmel tool - I already had it in my jewelry-making toolkit) for corners & tight places.

I tried not to use a hammer when straightening out the kinks - it's too easy to over-stretch the thin aluminum. I used parallel pliers and a hand seamer to fix kinks on the windows and various other parts during the restoration.

Unlike the trailer skins, the window frames are not made with Alclad aluminum so they will not polish up to the same super-shiny "mirror finish" as the exterior panels - but they blend in. We opt'd to leave ours a satin finish and only polish the exterior. We are happy with how they ended up...good luck!
