ZipDee Solar Shade

I was reading a mag recently and saw that ZipDee now makes a solar shade for the awning. I ordered and installed it; they have a good pic on their website.
It is basically a 10' x 5' piece of close weave material that attaches to the front awning roller with snaps that you pop rivet to the roller. It hangs down from the awning and it stops the sun from beating on you if the angle of the sun allows it. They provide all of the parts except the pop rivet gun and the electric drill/bit.
Folded up it is very compact and I think it is a nice innovation. Installation took me about 15 minutes.

Sorry, I had not done a search and I had not seen these before. Now I have done a search and there only a very few posts about these shades so I do not feel too bad about giving them some free advertising.

I have one that is not yet installed. One of these days. My only concern was if the snaps caused any abrasion on the awning fabric when rolled up ???? I ordered some extra snaps that I could add to the roller so that the shade could be moved either direction if I needed. Glad it's working nicely for you

We bought some of that shade material at Harbor Freight. It comes in various sizes already precut and hemmed. We use those heavy spring clamps to clamp it to the awning edge. You can move it as necessary. And we don't have to worry about the snaps rubbing or making holes from pulls.

I forgot to mention. It does provided added "shade", but it also blocks breezes and limits air movement.

I also added extra snaps to move the sun shade. Five years later and no abrasion. Throughout our snowbirding winter the sunshade remains attached and rolled up with the awning each day.

I thought I read in a previous thread that the shade snaps have a side effect by not letting the cover on the awning close as tightly as before they were installed.
Anyone notice that problem?

Not true with the shade removed; I have not tried rolling up the awning with the shade attached.

As an after thought, you can't secure the awning when the sunshade is rolled up in it. So you, obviously, can't travel with this way.

Thanks for straightening that out. I was going to purchase of of those about a year ago and never did because of the the report I read. Glad to hear that there is no problem.

OK Chuck. I shall TRY to remember to do that. It looks as simple as locating a point to drill and installing a pop-rivet. We Airstreamers should all be experienced with the
pop-rivet. It's in our genetics
