Be sure to consider the cost of getting the "wreck" to your location.

I am looking for a source of used parts, not planning on buying the complete trailer. For example, I need one of the mirror closet doors, as the previous owner "destroyed" the center door, on my 34'. Many of us are rebuilding and could use original "used" Airstream parts.

Trailers

Check with State Farm and all the other insurance companies. I stumbled onto an insurance sponsored, 'Great' Junk car auction years ago. One man's junk is another Man's treasure.

I know of at least one Airstream that was totaled, rebuilt with a salvage title, and sold as "Primo". I saw it at Alumapalooza last year. Things about the trailer looked a little "off", but I didn't make the connection until I saw the rebuild tag placed on it after the state it was re-registered in inspected it.
If they ended up keeping the trailer, I'm sure there was some rather intense renegotiation after they went back to the dealership they had just purchased it from. So, there is another place wrecked Airstreams go, back on the road after they are rebuilt.

Give away Parts

Hi, not sure if you still have any of the appliances from this, given it was so long ago. But we are looking for the stainless steel folding cover for the gas range top. Do you still have? We are in Albuquerque.

...or ask your friendly local neighborhood dealer!

Call Patrick Botticelli at Colonial. I think he may still have one or two brand new ones that got "gently rolled on their sides" - One on the way to an RV show, and the other by the driver delivering it to their lot.

That "dinged" on the road to the dealer - probably happens to 10-20 units a year. I wouldn't be surprised if Colonial is just one of several dealers who have a bashed unit discreetly tucked behind the service center.

I saw a 19' Bambi at a non-Airstream dealer when I was out of town and happened to have a couple of hours to kill... so I stopped in to rubberneck.

Like Terry, (Overlander63) it was being sold as used, but there was something just not quite right. Sure enough - it suddenly JUMPED out at me, the whole roadside panel was put on with Olympic rivets. I did my best dumb woman impression "why are these rivets a little different than the rest of them? After having my skirt thoroughly ventilated by the salesman's answer.... I struck. "Do you really think I don't know the difference between a bucked rivet and an Olympic? Or would you like me to demonstrate how to lock a klecko in your left ear? The salesman shamelessly admitted it had been wrecked like it was no big deal. And the price dropped by about $8K.

I said I couldn't possibly buy from someone who misrepresented the unit. I then left, then called the local consumer protection agency and wrote my first ever Google review. (Factual and dispassionate... an understated complaint makes the person doing the complaint look restrained, intelligent and socially conscious. By contrast the dealer's behavior (pretty standard for most sales people in the auto/rv arena) look shabby cheap and dishonest.

I'm always relieved (and only gently amused) when a newbie starts asking questions BEFORE they even consider parting with any money. I can think of literally dozens of first time posters who have already bought a "bargain" and we all see a broken frame with the characteristic telltale skin wrinkles just behind the rear axle. You gotta tell them, but boy you know it's going to crush their dream into a nightmare in a matter of seconds.

I search coparts.com once a week for wrecks. They usually have several listed.

AIRS TRAILER

Nice burn damaged trailer and a good deal at it's current price.

Not quite as toasty as "Phoenix" the Smokin' Hot deal! 30 foot classic. Inside looks almost good as new except for the burn through at the top of the furnace.
But no, I'm not tempted. Wrong end of the country just for starters.

Hey, that one's not as pretty as ours!

It must have been in the same fire! How funny! We didn't know anything about it, and it is in much better shape than our's.

However, I remain quite happy with our trailer. It is my dream layout and length. Plus, I love that shiny aluminum interior. It really helps to have lots of light during our gray Winter months in the PNW.
