Which Rivet Squeezer to buy?
I recently bought a buck riveting kit and am looking to purchase a rivet squeezer for various jobs on my trailer where bucking may not be the best idea.(currently, my window sashes) and alos pick up some soft aluminum rivets to use with the squeezer.
I see sizes from 1-1/2" inch REACH up to 6" inch REACH but really not sure how much "REACH" is really necessary to cover the select few jobs on the trailer.
thank you
Eric

Brand name Marson heavy cast frame 4 simple screw in nose pcs. for dif. size rivets. I have had 1 since 1977 lots of use still no wear. This the one Zip-Dee awnings use at factory & they are not expensive to buy.

I like the one I got at ACE hardware (ACE brand) with a swiveling head so it can get into as many places as possible. It has 4 heads for different size rivets, and i s well made. Cost around $30 or so.

Thank you featherbedder but I think we are talking about two different tools.
I looked up Marson "squeeze" riveter and all that came up were pneumatic or "pop rivet" guns.
I'm in need of a solid rivet hand squeezer used with solid, soft aluminum buck rivets.
Is that what yours is?

Ah, it sounded like you were looking for a pop rivet device. Ignore my suggestion then.

Eric, I have the tool shown, but with just two yokes. I couldn't say what yokes you'll want for your project but you can measure the reach and order what you need. I have found in aviation work that the yoke that's blank and doesn't take a die is really useful but I would say it is also useful around the door frame on an Airstream. Knipex super pliers will also work quiet well but do slightly flatten off the head.
Remember you would also need the dies specific to the rivet style and size you want to install and I found that turning them down allows far better access in close quarters.
My only other comment would be that squeezers are somewhat less forgiving than you'd think of poor holes. It's easier to accommodate less than perfect holes with buck riveting in my experience.

Thank you T-saurus,
I was unaware about needing the specific dies but it makes sense just like the pneumatic rivet gun. I don't think I need a 6" yoke and thought going with a 3" might be a safe bet and can be used in multiple applications.
One question though, If a "blank yoke" doesn't take dies, is it still dimpled to take the rivet head?

Ah. The blank yoke works on either end of a flush rivet but only the tail of a universal or brazier style rivet, the head still needs the regular die. Hope that helps a bit.

I pulled the trigger on a S.S. Texas Squeezer w/ 1-1/2" & 3" yoke, 11 piece squeeze set and quick change yoke pins from The Yard Store.
Price came to $161.00 w/ free shipping....Thanks for everyone's input!
Can't wait to try it out on my window sash re-assembly this weekend

Hey ehodg66. Curious if this rivet squeezer work for you? I'm looking to get one to repair the buck rivets on the hinge for my windows. Do you think this would work for the application?

Holden,
I think the rivet squeezer will reach and would work for the hinge (if you are referring to a "hinge" like my 72") BUT, the rivet squeezer does use softer rivets. I personally don't think that would be an issue since the hinge isn't always taking the full load of the window.
I would be curious to hear what some of the more experienced/engineer minded members think on this subject.
Hope this helps
Eric

Hey ehodge66,
Thanks for responding. I think I found a simpler solution. I found this post on Youtube
The window hinges are held in place by tubular rivets. I found them on Vintage Trailer Supply as well as a tool to install them. It's a hand rivet clincher. Hoping this does the trick.

Looks like that will work as well. I didn't have an issue with the rivets interfering with the gasket. They laid down just fine. Plus, with the windows closed, it keeps that gasket constantly pressed.
Always more than one way to do a job Good luck and post some pics.
