In the old days, driving well-used cars and trucks, I kept in the toolbox a length of baling wire (then widely found just about anywhere in rural America).
Relied on more than once to secure a loose muffler or tailpipe and to hold together all kinds of this and that.
Wish I could find some baling wire now.

Tractor Supply still sells it. It's not cheap like it use to be!
Lowes carries a similar wire, not coated, in their concrete/rebar area. It is used for connecting/splicing rebar. I have a roll of this I use for miscellaneous repairs.

Thanks. I may pick up a stretch, as long as I don’t have to buy a 50-foot roll.
Used to be less expensive ... like, free.
Farmers, ranchers and horse people always had plenty lying around and we’re happy to share.
Don’t know any use for the string that binds bales nowadays.

Vocabulary Lesson Accepted
Well, I gotta admit.....my new learned word for the day, "kluge". Never heard it in my life, but now know what it means. I don't think anyone in Oklahoma or Texas ever uses that word, or I'd have heard it. But, now I can use it on others.
So far (knock on wood), haven't had to do any kluges on our '17 Serenity, that I can think of. Famous last words

This made me laugh out loud! I can just see it in the RV park! Thanks for the great visual.

After a pin broke in one of my awning arms I spent a week with a pair of vice grips holding the awning arm extended

In some countries the word " Bodge" is used as well as/instead of "kluge".

A vocabulary lesson for me as well. On my honey moon, we got a flat tire in the Sierra mountains. It was 2 am with no jack or lug wrench, a co-worker had given me a tool kit for the car a 1991 Toyota Supra turbo. The kit had the right size socket for the lug nuts. So I loosen the nuts and drove the car over the edge of road so the flat tire ( passenger front) was suspended in the air. Removed flat and install full sized spare after some digging and 125lb wife sitting on the opposite corner. Then had wife slowly back up car while lifting front wheel well to give rear tires traction. When we arrived at Yosemite lodge at 4am this McGiver was well rewarded This was my story I shared with my co-workers (most of them attended the wedding at Yosemite) when I got back...yes I included the reward part without details... only a big grin

On our trip to Alaska (2 summers ago) the bottom hinge on our reefer door disintegrated causing the door to fall off (and YES a mess along with it). A piece of wood and some gorilla tape held it together during transit for the next 5 wks. While in Ak I ordered a new door from dometic and had it delivered to my sisters house in Kansas. On the way home to the east coast we stopped by and installed the new door.
Gorilla tape is my best buddy.

Kluges
"I don't think anyone in Oklahoma or Texas ever uses that word..."
It comes from the computer field. Any software or hardware developer is likely to know it well, and there are plenty of both in the Austin area. :-)
