My curiosity is aroused! Maybe you could post photos of this at various angles, and describe what it is made of (for example, I see that there is a regular hardware store bracket) as well as the dimensions. Having owned a variety of travel trailers and a motorhome since 1981, and having kludged a few things myself, perhaps a different perspective might trigger a "eureka!" moment.

It is definitely not 'original' in terms of Airstream Factory...

I wonder of it is a cradle to hold a water jug. Let the sun heat up a dark container of water, pop it in the cradle, open a spigot and viola - an instant shower that used no propane and no electricity.

I think it had some thing to do with water jug of sorts.... It's too heavy duty to be for anything light,
As for the bed street side, I guess the first owners had it changed so they could use it as a dinette with a t.v table , I guess from '65 - late 90's they would take the trailer out once a year to a rally and then store it for the rest of the year. I guess that's why it's in very good shape.
We have 2 little ones so will have to change it back to a bed....
I am thinking of not making it a gaucho, just a bed. Any one else done that????

I've heard family tales from the late 1930s in Minot ND of collecting water for hair care. Back in the day before there were 134 different shampoos and conditioners available when visiting locales blessed with hard or sulfur water some Ladies had issues with washing childrens or their own hair in it.

So, across Minnesota and the Dakotas it was a common practice to at least rinse with rainwater or even snow melt water. Even today half or more of the city of St Paul, MN's municipal water is collected from shallow limestone bottom lakes and comes out of the tap at 380ppm carbonates & salt and a pH of 8.4 - which is alkali enough to make everyday a bad hair day!
