We did this with our toilet paper holder. Now what……

We have a 2018 Globetrotter. There is a wall behind the toilet paper holder that does not go to the top of the cabinet and it has a 2-3” space that is void behind it. This space is open all the way to the bottom of the cabinet.

My wife was changing the roll of toilet paper and thought she had inserted the toilet paper holder snuggly into each end. When she went to use the toilet paper, one end was not snug. The paper fell out of the holder and the spring on the other end of the holder shot the toilet paper holder into that 2-3” void. The toilet paper holder ended up at the bottom of that void behind the wall.

Because the space is so narrow, we can’t get our hands behind the wall to get it out. We figured all of these holders were the same size but the one we purchased is just a little too short and falls out pretty easy. I can see the same thing happening again.

I have a magnet on a wand but the toilet paper holder will not attract to it. I also have a flexible / extendable claw that can get to bottom but I can’t get it to grab anything but wires and I don’t want to pull anything loose. The gap is so small I can’t see it with a mirror and flashlight.

I know the quick answer is to just measure and find one that fits. However, my curiosity wants to know if there is any way to retrieve the original holder. Any ideas?

An odd problem, but ultimately it's probably ok just letting it stay there.

Yeah, I just bought another one...or two after mine shot down the wall. - Brad

My wife was happy to hear she is not the only one it has happened to. The double side tape sounds like a possibility using my flexible claw wand.

Just think that some 30 years from now, someone will be restoring your trailer and will find the toilet paper roll in there. You are pulling a smile from somebody 300 years ahead...

I don't use the holder all together. I just leave it on the counter.

We use that area where the cabinet wall ends to store our back-up rolls of toilet paper. They sit there nicely without interfering with anything in the cabinet. This also precludes the toilet paper roller from falling behind the wall.

Oh, No!!

If you stand it up vertically, no one can say you've got the roll on backwards.

Did you try taking a video of the space with your phone? That's what we did to find out exactly how our lost item was positioned, and how to grab it. Just be sure and hold onto your phone!

We tried several things to pick it up, with no luck. Finally went to walmart and found a fish hook puller about 12" long that had jaws with teeth and a lever to close them on to things. Just long enough to reach, not too long to get in there. Our item was rescued.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm getting more ideas, and laughs, than I was expecting. I'll be trying some of them in the next few days. Been babysitting my grandson for a week and that pretty much keeps me from doing anything else. If his 21 mos old arms were just a little longer....

What is toilet paper? We are enjoying nature. Isn't that what leaves are for?

No, that’s what the old Sears mail order catalogs were for. Just avoid the slick picture pages.....

I now live in Oregon so was trying to be green with the leaves comment. So could we use the Sears catalogue pages to light the campfire and irritate a significant portion of this crowd while using the leaves to take care of the bottom end work keep my credentials in place?
Then I can still do my burn pile in the back yard and not feel bad?

Compost pile is for the leaves. Makes great soil amendments when they are fully composted. Sears catalog back in the day had toxic ink. Not a good thing to burn. You get enough rain up there to make great compost...

Watch out for the poison ivy.

Back to the original problem
They sell inexpensive ($35 or so) endoscopes on Amazon. They use your phone for the display screen. You can use those to look into some amazingly small spaces.

Admittedly, the toilet paper roll hangar might not justify the expense, but if you think of another use for the endoscope.......

leaves are fine; but don't get the group of 3 ! Corn cobs work better if available; a red than a white to see if another red is needed. I saw that on the wall of a old 2 hole.

We have a winner! Thanks for all your suggestions. The suggestion that led to the solution was using the phone to take a picture of the area 1st to locate where it fell. However, the answer is not what I was expecting.

I took a picture in the area where it should have been and could not find it down there anywhere. I then took a flashlight and mirror to look under the and behind the water heater beneath our sink. I still couldn’t locate it anywhere.

It then occurred to me that maybe it didn’t happen the way my wife thought.

I took everything out of the cabinet and found that it had dropped into the bottom of a basket my wife keeps her hair curlers in! I feel stupid for asking the question as eventually she would’ve run across it. Hopefully our experience will save someone some time in the future. Thanks again for the phone picture idea as it helped confirm that it was no where we thought it was.
