water pump not filling lines

I have a 2012 Eddie Bauer (just purchased) and on my first night of use. The water pump runs but just sputters air. The pump does not seem to suck water. I have removed the intake and sucked water to fill the line, but to know avail. I know the hot water tank needs to fill but the pump just runs and nothing comes out the faucet. Any help?

Since you are able to pull water from the tank, the check valve may be stuck. It is part of the pump assembly. You can unscrew the filter come and check for debris. Be careful how it goes together.

Also, open closest faucet to purge lines then when flow established, fill water heater tank.

water pump not filling lines

Disconnect the discharge line. Run the pump until you get water. Shut the pump off, reconnect the discharge line. Open a faucet. Start the pump.

If the pump is airlocked, this will solve the problem. You won't get any hot water out of the tap until the hot water tank is filled. The tank is six gallons and takes a few minutes with the pump running to fill. A faster way is to connect to city water with the hose. This will also clear any debris in the check valve. If the check valve is stuck open, the water pump will suck air rather than water as another poster suggests.

Your trailer may have a 3-way valve between the water tank and pump inlet, for easy winterizing to suck RV antifreeze from a jug as opposed to dumping the nasty stuff in your water tank.

If you have one of those valves, check the position of the handle. If that is the problem, your water heater is also probably bypassed and you will want to make sure you undo that as well and have a full water heater before firing up the burner.
