Water Pump

I have just purchased a 1985 325 Airstream Motorhome and on the journey home we ran into a problem that I am not able to figure out. We had been using our fresh water supply for 3 days and 1 day I decided to use the "city supply" and when I went to unhook the line water started gushing out. I did turn off the supply line before unhooking hose. I had to turn off the pump so water quit coming out of the city water hook up. Any ideas?

There is a check valve at the city connection that is to stop water from exiting there when the pump is on. Most likely that valve is stuck open allowing water to back-flow out.

Once fixed it is a good idea to turn the pump off while hooked to city water. I say this because during periods of low city pressure, in under supplied campgrounds, the pump will come on and unnecessarily draw you tank down.

I have taken the valve apart for other problems and you might try that as a first attempt to fix.
