Water inside front storage compartment

We drove through a hard rainstorm last week and then I found moisture inside our front storage compartment (27FB). I’ve seen this before but being from the NW, I thought it was condensation from the humid interior air. Now we are in the desert SW so that’s not it. The door inside skin is wet as are my tools and various stuff in the compartment. I’m thinking its coming around the seal in the door but has anyone else seen this and found a solution? (Sorry for the sideways phone picture)

It is a good possibility that the water is entering past the door gasket. I use a product made by Wurth that renews rubber door gaskets. Use it on all gaskets on the Airstream as well as vehicles. Check to see if you can push in on the door when it is closed, and if it moves inward you can bend the latch a small amount to tighten up. Also test with a garden hose spray on the door to imitate the rain on the door. You might have to look further if no water enters the compartment after you spray. Then it means starting to look higher up. Good luck!

Both of my side storage compartments would be wet around the edges after a lot of rain. I finally figured out there water was entering via the pop rivet heads for the hinges. After a few treatments with Captain Tolleys, the problem went away. I treated the head and the back of the hinge so the CT would follow the path of water.

Similar issue with 2018 27FB

Walt,

I also have a 2018 27 FB and have only been able to use it a few times but the first time I towed it in the rain had the same issue. My tools were wet and had a pretty much the same smattering of rain as you did. I have tightened the two latches and hope that works the next time I run into a rain storm. I am heading out camping the firs week of March and the weather looks to be pretty wet. I will let you know how it fares after my next tow.

Regards,
ROB
