Warning ...Tow vehicle OEM TPS

I have a 2009 Chevy van. The OEM TPSers are metal. They are discontinued. The new ones are rubber/plastic. They stopped using the metal because of rust and corrosion leading to FAILURE.

I don't know what OTHER years came with the metal ones, but the 2009 versions are ready to disintegrate if they have not already. The replacements, from Chevy dealers, run about $85 each.

GM never issued a warning, that I am aware of.

My first one broke when I got a new tire. I thought the mechanic was too aggressive and caused the failure

THE NEXT ONE BROKE WHEN I TOOK THE CAP OFF TO ADD AIR..THE CAP WAS ALL THAT WAS HOLDING THE AIR IN THE TIRE. This happened as I was getting everything ready to go on the highway for a road trip.

If you have a vehicle around the 2009 era. CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE THEY METAL ONES. YOU MIGHT BE PREVENTING AN ACCIDENT. If you a lucky like me…just a delayed trip.

Don't know if these are the same as an '09 but they are whats on our '06 Burb.


I got the set of new ones in '09 when we bought the Burb. I was going to install them on the trailer, but after testing, the range was too short so I never installed them.
I remember their being a few different part numbers, but have no idea what the difference would be.

The ones on the Burb are OEM, and still in good shape and transmitting fine.

No apparent corrosion, and had no issues when installing the new tires last month.

Most of the OEM TPS are aluminum DO NOT CHANGE TO METAL VALVE CAPS. The factory ones are plastic for a reason CORROSION between the stainless steel and the aluminum. When you try to remove hte valve cap your remove the whole top of the sensor. I know because I did this to myself, not fun.

I also had no idea that a T.P.Sers was for a tire until there was a picture, but I do know most vehicles have a T.P.S that is for "Throttle Position Sensor" Now lets see, is a T V something I watch or something I use to tow my B.S??? That's for a "Bambi Sport"

I've seen this a fair amount on Chrysler products.
Dexterpix is correct. Steel or plated caps corrode the valve stems. Its possible to find decorative metal caps with vinyl insets
