We are aware this topic has reared its ugly head more than once on these forums. Like many trailers of a similar vintage, our '79 Sovereign
has 3 upper Vista Views whose film between the glass layers has disintegrated. In our trailer the film isn't even attached to the glass. It's in shards.
The most common recommendation seems to be breaking the interior pane of glass, but we are not yet comfortable that method of repair. Has anyone actually used replacement windows? Where did you purchase them and what is the part number? Parts for late 70s trailers seem to be rarer than hen's teeth, and we don't want to spend more $900 on windows to find they aren't going to fit.
According to the '79 Excella Service Manual that came with our trailer, the Vista View windows and hard shades were pre-assembled in a frame that was mounted between the exterior shell and interior wall. We certainly haven't found any replacement parts for the entire frame unit. According the service manual repair requires the removal of wall panels. Yikes! We're beginning to think just keeping the shades closed is our best solution, but after doing all the other work to make our trailer pretty, not fixing those windows really bothers the wife.
Any and all help to keep me out of the "the dog house" or out of more hock would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks
